Groove City Corona-virus update

Groove City is canceling the Albert Castigila concert for Friday night 20 March and the Vintage #18 concert scheduled for 3 April at DCA. Governor Hogan has banned most public gatherings due to an abundance of caution for preventing the spread of the coronavirus. In discussions with the Albert Castiglia band and manager, we found out that they have cancelled the remainder of their tour and we support their decision. They are anxious to reschedule and have emphatically stated that they will do so once the restrictions have been lifted by government and health authorities. We will also be working with the Vintage #18 band to reschedule.
For all of you who have purchased tickets, Groove City will either refund your purchase in its entirety or hold your purchase for use at a future concert of similar value or the rescheduled Albert Castigila or Vintage #18 concert. We are asking everyone who has purchased tickets to send a written request that clearly explains what you wish to be done with the tickets to:info@groovecitystudio.org
GCS will respond individually to every request so that you have a clear understanding of what will happen with your tickets.
As the virus progresses and the government and health officials take necessary actions, we will continue to update the website. Currently the Moonlight Blues concert for later in April has not been cancelled. We are taking a wait and see attitude.

Groove City Corona-virus update

Groove City Music Nights has been following the Corona-virus spread and is in contact with the booking managers and in some cases the musicians themselves. The next concert is the Albert Castiglia concert on Friday 20 March. At this time the musician and manager are still playing the smaller venues like GCS and as of this time the artist still plans to perform on Friday night at GCS. We will provide a concert update Monday evening. The state of Maryland has banned gatherings of over 250 people and recommends social distancing.
Any person who has purchased tickets for the Albert Castiglia concert and has concerns regarding the concert can obtain a refund of their ticket. We also ask that If you have the sniffles or a mild cold or if you are in any way immuno-compromised, please stay home, we will refund your ticket. Contact us through either Facebook or the website. Make sure that we have your name, email address and number of tickets purchased. We will respond to your email address within two days and credit your account.
As the concert season progresses we will be following state and federal guidelines and issuing updates on each concert as the date nears. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter and hopefully the virus will run its course and society can get back to normal.

Press Release Press Release Press Release Press Release Press Release

Dorchester Center for the Arts Image Groove City Studios is very excited to announce our new collaboration with the Dorchester Center for Arts at 321 High St in Cambridge! Yes we are moving and joining forces with DCA. The collaboration will have a positive impact on the shows with more space for national acts and a renewed expanded emphasis on local bands, and performers, and at some shows a dinner service! The goal of GCS and DCA is to reinvigorate and expand live music of all genres in Cambridge! Simply stated, our goal is to make Cambridge a music destination for fans of live music.
While GCS will be leaving the wood paneled intimate confines of Groove City Studios at 516 Race St, DCA will be providing two stages for intimate concerts in the Main Gallery and an expanded second floor performance area for the larger shows. And it’s just two blocks away on High St. closer to restaurants and the Cambridge Night Life scene. Don’t worry, the same high quality sound will be heard at DCA as was at the original GCS front room. The DCA spaces are being tuned and set up for live concerts.
The first concert will be Vintage #18 on 3 April 2020. The Moonlight Blues will be performing in late April and back to rock Cambridge in June will be Josh Christina! The GCS website has all of the information and as always tickets can be purchased online at www.groovecitystudio.org Hope to see you at the shows!

Hard-driving blues rhythms and soul grooves fuel the blistering performance of DC-based Soul Blues band Vintage#18. After attending a performance, John Porter, WCVE declares, “Vintage#18 is a band you have to see live in order to appreciate their level of performance.” April 2017, Vintage#18 released their debut album Grit which reflects the band’s love of retro Soul and Blues, featuring a mix of originals and two covers (ZZ Top and Bob Dylan).
The band received their first industry nod in early 2017 - a Blues Blast Music Award Nomination for New Artist Album Debut. Grit was also received a 2018 Independent Music Award nomination for R & B/Soul Album
Vintage#18’s live performances has generated quite the buzz throughout Washington, DC and surrounding areas; soon the tight-knit group found themselves opening shows for Billy Price, the Nighthawks, Lil’ Ed and the Blues Imperials, Albert Cummings, Selwyn Birchwood, Coco Montoya, Roomful of Blues and the Duke Robillard Band.
Vintage#18 features the vocals of Robbin Kapsalis, the unique sound of Bill Holter (#18) on guitar, Alex Kuldell/drums and Mark Chandler/bass.
Blues In the South hit it on the head…” Although this outfit is undoubtedly a blues band, they have a distinctively individual sound.” https://www.vintage18.net/

The Eastern Shore's very own Trinity Blues has a musical style best described as a mash-up of electric and acoustic blues, folk, and rock-n-roll. A typical set might include pieces done by Clapton, Zeppelin, The Band, Johnny Cash, Tab Beniot, ZZ-Top, Albert Cummings, Canned Heat, and more.
When they formed in 2015, Trinity Blues would have happily told you their musical goal was to entertain themselves. While that's always part of the plan, the band-- consisting of Steve Pittman (singer, harmonica, rhythm guitar), Will Pittman (lead guitar, back-up vocal), Justin Ray (bass, back-up vocal), and Dave Draper (drummer, back-up vocal) -- now has a growing following of blues fans and supporters and is looking forward to new venues and events (including the Cambridge Groove Fest) this year!

Bobby Kyle and the Administers with Laron Land - Tenor & Soprano Saxophones and Michael A. Thomas – Trumpet return to Cambridge for another great evening of blues. In today's music scene there are hundreds of talented guitarists vying for the brass ring, and there are many, many great players out there. But there are very few with the heart and soul of Bobby Kyle. Blunt and to the point, Bobby's singular styling resonates with maturity, talent and inspiration, bringing us a genesis of contemporary music that is characteristically all his own. Bobby's emotional, soulful voice rings true, and is forged with a raw, distinctive quality all his own. Honest and forthright, Bobby's original songs tell the story of the every person, with a passion born of life, love, and loss.
Recently, Bobby has had the great honor of being inducted into The Blues Hall of Fame. He now tours with his band, The Administers, who are comprised of Everett Boyd on bass and Marc Copell on drums. Also playing with Laron Land - Tenor & Soprano Saxophones and Michael A. Thomas - Trumpet

Better Together (Janet Griffin & Paul Harrison)

September 14, 2019 @ 7PM, Tickets $15
Thanks for coming to the event!
Beer and Wine Cash Bar
Tamara will be in the house with her wildly popular T's Divine Sweets and coffee for those craving dessert!

"Better Together" (Janet Griffin and Paul Harrison) is an acoustic duo that will keep you guessing  Their original songs range from lively, compelling folk-rock to beautiful ballads, always with well-honed lyrics to reward the careful listener.  Their cover songs run from jazzy, bluesy numbers to familiar Americana/popular songs.  They’ve also carefully selected some compelling gems by a few lesser-known artists that they know you will enjoy.
Janet’s outstanding vocals are sometimes compared to Bonnie Raitt and other versatile, emotive singers.   A Cambridge resident, Paul’s instrumental skills are a perfect complement to enhance the range of styles they will share.  Both have written songs for other artists’ projects (e.g., for a movie and for dramatic presentations) and for their own recordings, culminating in their joint CD, “Fairy Tale Gone Wrong.”
Janet and Paul both sing and both play guitar and mandolin.  After recently pursuing separate projects, they have reunited as "Better Together" and look forward to sharing their music in Cambridge.  In a nutshell, Janet and Paul have a great time playing and sharing music and invite you to join in the fun!
A portion of ticket sales will be donated to Choptank River Lighthouse

Tamara will be in the house with her wildly popular T's Divine Sweets and coffee for those craving dessert!

Please join us for this very special event. Chris English and his son Grayson will be performing live at Groove City Studios. This will be the culmination of 3 days of studio recording at Groove City Studios for their new CD, with the concert on Saturday to be the live recording for his CD. You can be part of this!!!
Chris English offers a combination of deep traditional blues and solid original material. Delta blues is his forte, singing, playing guitar and harp, stamping out the time on an old wooden coca cola crate. He uses vintage guitars from the 20's and '30's to replicate the sound and feeling of the blues he has studied and loves. Chris performs solo and as a duo with his talented son.
The Chris English Band has released its fourth Cd titled "Howlin" So Long". This live upbeat album consists of originals and some reconfigured blues. "Chris English 1/13/07" is his third CD. This is a live, solo, performance of traditional blues and originals. His second CD, "Lowdown in the House" was released in July 2004. This is a live, solo, performance of traditional blues and originals. His first CD, recorded in 1996, "Live at the Avalon", is a combination of solo tracks and a three-piece band.

John Nemeth

Thanks for coming to the event!

It’s true, John Nemeth will return to Cambridge on Feb. 21, 2020!!!
Cambridge welcomes back John Nemeth and the Blue Dreamers for our first Groove City Studios 2020 concert. John was here 3 times in 2018 and every show was rocking!!! This year we welcome John Hay on guitar.
Don’t try to snatch him back and hold him, he’s a man on the move. John Németh had already established himself among the very top ranks of blues musicians and modern soul singers when he decided to break the mold with his 2017 record, FEELIN’ FREAKY. Németh fearlessly crushes all barriers of style and genre with an album of original songs that defies all the usual pigeonholes. Drawing from his strong influences in blues and R&B, as well as contemporary sounds in hip hop and rock & roll, John creates music that is personal as well as universal, and owes its origin to no one but John Németh.

More about John Nemeth & the Blue Dreamers This is a give back to the community event. A portion of the tickets sales will go to Fixing Cats For Shore, which is a non-profit organization working to help control the outdoor cat population in Dorchester county.
